Highlight of Sandakan Festival

Kota Kinabalu: The "Colours of Sandakan" will be the highlight of this year's Sandakan Festival, showcasing a traditional handicraft bazaar and well-choreographed cultural dance performances.The event, set to take place from June 11-14, will be joined by hoteliers and restaurant operators with food bazaar and cooking demonstrations. During a courtesy visit to the Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun recently, the organisers, Sandakan Tourism Association (Stan) President Johnny Lim said a mini local travel fair with special prices for tour packages by travel agencies which will be held during the festival will surely entice visitors to come and pick the ideal packages for their next vacation plans.

"There will also be a special book launch for the 'Wild Colours of Sabah', the second edition of the bilingual guidebook, which includes expanded areas of Maliau Basin, Danum Valley and Tabin Wildlife Reserve."The Colours of Sandakan aims to showcase and create awareness on the cultures and heritage of Sandakan to locals and tourists alike," he said.Masidi complimented Stan for the initiative especially considering the association was only registered and established earlier this year. During the meeting, Masidi also agreed to officiate the opening day on June 11 at Harbour Mall Sandakan Waterfront.
