Sandakan: Financial matters continue to be the main reason why many societies in Sabah face deregistration by the Registrar of Societies. Sabah RoS Director Nelbon Tulis Missun on Tuesday said the failure of societies to submit their annual financial statements on time is the number one mistake done by most societies in Sabah.

"We look into such matters seriously and will not hesitate to provide a revocation notice to any society," said Missun and revealed such action is also part of their key performance indicator under the Home Affairs Ministry.

He said this during the closing of the Society Management Course, here which was attended by 40 societies from Sandakan, Kinabatangan, Beluran, Telupid and Lahad Datu.

He said there had also been other instances such as internal disputes, but such matters are normally caused at the constitutional level or violations of society laws by members.

Missun added societies also risk being deregistered if they are found to have violated the Societies Act 1966.

Sabah RoS at present has 19 of the 272 staff nationwide and is often faced with various issues and problems faced by the societies.

However, Missun said staff are always ready and committed to assist all registered 3,333 central organisational bodies and 2,575 organisational branches in Sabah.

Earlier, he said there are a total of 51,850 central organisational bodies and 60,769 organisational branches recorded by RoS nationwide.
