Labuan: A total of 105 second year students under the International Marketing programme of Universiti Malaysia Sabah's Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) have successfully directed several original video advertisements for their Fundamental of Multimedia course. The project was coordinated by Associate Professor Dr Norazah Mohd Suki.

She said the project was aimed to expose students on the application of basic knowledge and skills related to the fundamental multimedia building blocks, including text, graphic, sound, animation and video.

"Students were also exposed to the equipment and software tools needed to create and design the video advertisements.

"This skills indirectly prepare them for their future profession related to business and marketing which help to boost their creativity in video advertisements production," she added.

The project was held for seven weeks whereby students involved gained the exposure to utilise software such as Dreamweaver, Adobe Flash, MIDI audio and Digital audio.

They were to produce original video advertisements for Nestle Bliss, Tupperware, Apple, Red Bull, Nescafe, MI Band bracelet, SK smart watch, New Balance sport shoes, Nike bag pack and Samsung smartphone.

The advertisements were shot on the grounds of UMSKAL campus like the main buildings, the café, the jogging track and many more.

One of the project leaders in the video advertisement production, Siti Nur Aishah Saim, said from the project she had learned how to use the Adobe Premiere Pro software, and would not have come cross this software if it had not been for the project.

Furthermore, through this project students were also able to experience the real-life situation in directing an original video advertisement and inadvertently reveal their hidden talent through acting, directing, audio recording and many more.

In another note, Nurul Akidah Azmaya, a project leader in making the video advertisement, said the project had improved her confidence level "by playing a leading role in the video ads".
