Kuala Lumpur: A delegation of the Asia-Pacific CEOs and Presidents of 10 major US companies will arrive in Kuala Lumpur today to begin a series of meetings focused on long-term US business investment here and support for increased Asean economic integration. The US-Asean Business Council in a statement today said the high-level delegation will visit Indonesia and Malaysia to meet with a wide variety of government officials and business leaders.

It said that the companies in the delegation have substantial investments in Malaysia supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs, and are collectively planning or considering more than US$500 million (RM1.78 billion) in new investments in the next three to five years.

The delegation is also expected to meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, the statement said.

US-Asean Business Council Vice President for Policy Marc Mealy said the delegation strongly supports Malaysia's 'Vision 2020' goals, which aim to make Malaysia a high-income nation by 2020, as well as its leadership role as this year's Asean Chairman in the launch of the Asean Economic Community (AEC).

The Council and US investors also have confidence in Malaysia's growing economy and continued economic liberalisation, he said in the statement, adding that trade agreements such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) will also give Malaysia access to significant opportunities on both sides of the Pacific.

The Council said that the mission aims to offer US business support for key areas of integration, including regulatory harmonisation and revival of the e-Asean Initiative to secure Asean's position as an ICT hub.

Organised by the US-Asean Business Council, the mission also aims to offer human capital development as well as development and training of SMEs through efforts such as the US-Asean Business Alliance for Competitive SMEs, a joint project of the Council and the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

The delegation includes companies from the ACE Group, Cigna, the Coca-Cola Company, DuPont, GE, Intel, Medtronic, Monsanto and Procter & Gamble. – Bernama
