Father, son jailed for having meat of protected animals

Lahad Datu: A father and son were sentenced to 30 months' jail each by the Magistrate's Court here Wednesday for having the meat of the Bearded Pig, wild boar and Common Palm Civet, which are protected animals.Ansaat Endok @ Angindok and his son Habil Ansaat pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Steve Ritikos, who sat as a magistrate to having 41 pieces of Bearded Pig meat, 21 pieces of wild boar feet and five dead Common Palm Civet at the bucket of a 4WD on 6.10am on Feb 7 this year at Km 64 Jalan Lahad Datu – Tungku.

The court heard that the duo were detained by the district Wildlife Department after the protected animals were found in their vehicle during a roadblock.

Further investigation found that the duo did not have any licence or permit to own such animals.

The court ordered them to serve their sentence from Wednesday.
