Sabah's manufacturing sector: Investment value surges two-fold to RM20.2 billion

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah's manufacturing sector investment value surged two-fold to RM20.2 billion under the Tenth Malaysia Plan on projects and initiatives carried out in the five-year plan. Industrial Development Ministry Permanent Secretary Datuk Hasim Paijan on Thursday said the strong investment performance is due to the effort carried out by all the ministry's agencies and departments."With only 48 staff, the ministry is operating on a RM6.1 million management budget to handle RM50.6 million worth of development allocation. ADVERTISEMENT "And last year, the manufacturing sector recorded RM3 billion in investment value," he told officers during the ministry's Excellent Service Award Ceremony.The State, meanwhile, raked in RM10.7 billion in the previous Ninth Malaysia Plan. The ministry also attributed the success to the Industrial Development and Research Department, Sabah Economic Development Corporation, Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park, Palm Oil Industrial Cluster, Sandakan Bulkers and others. Towards this end, the ministry also noted the various awards it has gathered over the past two years had to do with the good stewardship and management practices carried out by all its staff. ADVERTISEMENT Such awards include four-star ratings in the Financial Management Accountability Index by the National Audit Department and the Auditor-General. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister cum Industrial Development Minister Datuk Raymond Tan reminded the execution and success of programmes and activities of the ministry depend on the involvement and cooperation from all involved.

Tan's speech was read by Assistant Industrial Development Minister Datuk Bolkiah Ismail. As the Eleventh Malaysia Plan is scheduled to be unveiled on May 21, Tan, in looking forward, said a number of strategies have been underlined to enhance the development policies of the State.
