Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah women futsal team must get full points in their two National Futsal League matches to be played at the Juara Sports Arena in Putatan starting today (Friday) to ensure they stand any chance of a third spot finish. The team currently fourth on the table behind Selangor MPSJ are taking on ATM at 6.30pm today and head coach Asraaf Fong said they cannot afford to drop any more points.

"The team are pursuing Selangor MPSJ for the third spot and the players must win their matches against ATM tomorrow and Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

"I expect a very strong home support and hopefully this will spur the players on to win big."

He said all the players in the team played in the recent Asian Football Federation women football tournament in Vietnam and because of that they are having problems to re-adjust their game.

"They need to adapt to the game faster. In their first match since returning from Vietnam, they seemed to lose their touch against Kedah where they lost 1-4.

"Although they bounced back in their next match and thrashed Sarawak DBKU 13-1, there are still some tactical weaknesses that I tried to rectify in the past week during the training sessions."

He said the Sabah women have collected 28 points after 14 matches played, two points behind Selangor MPSJ while the top places are occupied by KL Felda United and Selangor with 37 and 35 points respectively.

"This is a very good chance for Sabah to overtake Selangor MPSJ this weekend as they are up against KL Felda United and Selangor."

Sabah will have two more matches to play against Selangor MPSJ on May 29 and PDRM on May 31 but is most certain to make the Grand Finals to be held early next month where the top eight teams will qualify.

Asraaf also called on all futsal fans to come in large numbers to watch quality matches as most teams featured many national players.

Meanwhile, Sabah will have two representatives in the men category with Sabah state team taking on Kuala Lumpur Mk (today at 8pm), Pahang (Saturday 7pm) and Sabah Quilmes versus Melaka (today 5pm), KL Felda United (Sunday 1pm).

Sabah are currently in 10th position in the table standing with 19 points from 20 matches while Sabah Quilmes are one position below at 11th with 11 points.
