Kota Kinabalu: A newly four-star hotel, Avangio Hotel Kota Kinabalu which is ideally connected to a world-class medical centre, Jesselton Medical Centre (JMC) at Metro Town, near Kolombong, is considered to be the first integrated state-of-the-art hotel that has such unique and accommodating structure in Sabah. The hotel's General Manager Wan Anderi said the hotel, which is managed by international hotel chain, Accor, and JMC belong to the same owner here thus facilitating the needs of both clients.

He said the hotel, which has 103 rooms and suites to cater to business and leisure travellers in seven floors, would be fully operational in June 1.

"Due to this integrated structure where the hotel and JMC are built next to each other and connected via a link at level 1 and 2, we are doing a simultaneous marketing and promotion for both.

"In fact, the main target market of Avangio Hotel is the medical tourists and people who are seeking treatment at JMC where the warded patients also use the facilities available at the hotel apart from leisure tourists.

"In fact, the in-patients can enjoy the hotel's room service menu where they can order the meals including drinks based on the menu that we have placed in each ward at JMC.

"Soon, they can also enjoy the hotel's spa and wellness treatment to be put up this year," he said to Daily Express here when met after a media tour of the hotel at Metro Town on Thursday.

Wan said the hotel which had its soft opening last month is 98 per cent complete with some touch ups and fine tuning remaining to be done.

"Construction of the hotel started few years back and was completed in February this year, and I only came into the hotel and appointed as the General Manager three months ago.

"Nonetheless, the hotel rooms at Level 1 and 2 are now operational while the rest are almost completed," he said.

On the occupancy rate, he said they received walk-ins as people are just starting to know the hotel's existence through advertisements.

However, Wan said they are positive that the occupancy of the hotels would start to pick up during the Kaamatan Festival and coming school holidays early next month.

He said the hotel is also targeting locals from other districts who are visiting their family members and loved ones warded at JMC. He disclosed that the hotel gives special rates for family members of those warded at the medical centre, to stay at their rooms.

On the hotel's facilities, he said it has four avant-garde spaces for food and drinks including the all-day-dining restaurant Mercato featuring local and international favourites; the lobby lounge and bar serving cocktails and canapes; the pub with live entertainment every weekend and an elevated open-air pool bar.

Wan said the hotel's event and meeting facilities include three spacious meeting rooms that can accommodate up to 400 people, as well as a business centre and an executive lounge.

Ample secure hotel parking is also available at the hotel.

"The hotel's remarkable recreational facilities comprise an outdoor swimming and wading pool on the patio terrace and a fitness centre featuring top range equipment as well as an exercise room for aerobic and yoga classes.

"The hotel will soon has its own spa and wellness centre featuring six private rooms for guests to indulge in luxurious holistic spa treatments. Both clients at the hotel and JMC can use these facilities as they like," he said.
