Published on: Friday, April 01, 2005

Kota Kinabalu: Police believe they are hot on the heels of gambling syndicates in the city with the separate arrests of two men on Wednesday.

City Police Chief, ACP Azizan Abu Taat, said they are now concentrating on determining the culprits behind the syndicates following the arrests of the duo for involvement in illegal 4-D gambling.

He said a 45-year-old local man was first picked up at a coffeeshop in Likas, near here, about 4.20pm.

A total of 25 pieces containing illegal 4-D numbers, a calculator and RM458 in cash, among others, were seized from the man, he added.

The second man, a 42-year-old local, was also arrested in a coffeeshop, at Jalan Burung Keleto, Inanam, near here, about 3.40pm.

Police also seized 30 illegal 4D papers and RM313 in cash, among others. Both arrests were based on public tip-offs.

Azizan said the cases would be investigated under Section 4A(a) of the Open Gaming House Act 1953.
