Papar Chinese schools  seeing rise in intake
PAPAR: Except for SJK (C) St Joseph, all of the Chinese schools in the district saw an increase in their enrolment for the new school session.

District Education Officer Suzlan Suhaili said making at the top of the list was SJK (C) Tung Shan who have an increase of 7.3 per cent where 165 pupils registered in the school in 2019 compared to 153 in 2018.

“This was followed by SJK (C) Bong Hwa which increased by 7.22 per cent with 89 pupils registered this year compared to 83 in 2018.

“The third highest SJK (C) Anglo Chinese with 6.7 per cent increase of 127 registration this year than 119 in 2018,” he told Daily Express.

Suzlan said there were 75 registrations in 2018 while this year was 79, showing an increase of 5.1 per cent, followed by SJK (C) Kin Kiau with an increase of 4 per cent where 399 pupils registered this year compared to 383 last year.

He said SJK (C) Hwa Yin and SJK (C) Cheng Hwa increased showed a slight increase as well with 1.43 per cent and 1.18 per cent, respectively.

“SJK (C) Hwa Yin had an increased to 70 pupils this year compared to 69 last year while SJK (C) Cheng Hwa increased from 339 to 343 pupils,” he added.

With numbers of pupils increasing, SJK (C) Sen Ming did not show changes of pupil enrolment where only 24 pupils were registered for both years.

Although having the highest number, SJK (C) St Joseph was the only school to have decreased in enrolment where there were 407 pupils in 2018 but dropped by 3.19 per cent in 2019 with only 394 registrations.
