not to save myself: Musbah
KOTA BELUD: Tempasuk assemblyman Datuk Musbah Jamli denies he joined Parti Warisan Sabah for personal interest but for his constituents.

He said it took him a while to think about joining the local party after quitting Umno to become an independent assemblyman.

“In the end, I think this is the best move for me to join a local party and not one from the Peninsula. It’s my opinion that only a local party can fight for Sabah’s rights,” he said.

Musbah had reportedly said he and his ex-Umno comrades had initially been keen to join Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) but later decided against it.

He said many development projects have been planned for his constituency but there’s the risk of being left                  abandoned if he remained in the opposition.

“Therefore, it’s only right for me to join Warisan. After all, my friend had repeatedly invited me (to join),” he said, referring to Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

The former Kota Belud Umno deputy chief was among those who quit Umno en masse last month.

Former Sabah Umno liaison chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor had said he was not surprised by Musbah’s decision and accused him of doing it for personal interest.

Musbah said genuine leaders should not be afraid to set aside their political ego for the sake of the people they serve.

“I’m grateful to Shafie for accepting me in Warisan for the sake of development in my constituency,” he said.

He claimed that prior to accepting Shafie’s invitation to join the party, he consulted the views of local leaders in his area. - Gindanau Sakat
