New Ranau school blocks completed
RANAU:  The opening of the long-awaited new buildings of SMK Kemburongoh here on Friday by State Education and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob brought relief for folks in Kg Kemburongoh and the surrounding villages, especially the teachers and students.

SMK Kemburongoh is located approximately 36km from town.

The new buildings contain 18 classrooms and a host of other facilities like two blocks of male dormitory, two blocks of female dormitory and a dining hall.

Dr Yusof, in his speech, said he hoped those in SMK Kemburongoh would take full advantage of the new facilities to improve their quality and performance in learning in the academic field, co-curriculum and inter-personal skills.

According to him, with the completion of the new buildings, students of SMK Kemburongoh will be able to enjoy a conducive learning environment and safe school atmosphere.

“Infrastructure development in the education sector in Sabah will continue to be channelled to schools, especially those far away and are in thirst for development.

“There are still many other schools that need to be taken into consideration for the construction of buildings to replace old ones, which certainly requires a huge amount of allocation,” he said.

Nevertheless, he assured that all education development projects in Sabah absorbed into the 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK11) would be completed according to schedule.

“I will help expedite the approval process so that our children can enjoy better and more comfortable educational facilities,” he said.

SMK Kemburongoh started operating in 1996 by sharing with SK Kemburongoh, prompting the Ministry of Education (KPM) to approve an allocation of RM27,808,318 for the construction of a full replacement to provide comfort to teachers and students.

The project was completed by the “rescue contractor”, which replaced the original contractor who had some problems and whose contract was terminated by KPM.

Construction was fully completed in October 2018, a month earlier than the date promised by the contractor and consultant Kerjadi Sdn Bhd.

The event on Friday saw the handing over of the entire SMK Kemburongoh by the contractor to KPM and the State Education Department (JPN), and was then submitted to the Ranau District Education Office (PPD).

Also present were State Education Director Mistrine Radin, Ranau District Education Officer Siti Hamni @ Ani Binti Hashim, Kerjadi Sdn Bhd Managing Director Patrick Yeo and SMK Kemburongoh Principal Boysharif Francis Fuad. - Clarence GD
