70pc success rate for the Tuaran cops
TUARAN: Tuaran police have solved 70 per cent of cases from January 2016 up to December 2018. Tuaran Police Chief DSP Dzulbaharin Ismail  said, throughout January 2016, police have investigated 373 cases received.

“We solved 70 per cent of the cases which comprise mostly of car theft and house break-in within that period,” he said. He said within that same period, there was no increase in cases while all cases this year is still under control.

He said this during a police meet-and-greet session at Taman Telipok Ria, here, Tuesday.

A total of 36 officers and personnel took part in the programme, as they distributed pamphlets which promotes crime prevention tips to the local community.

Besides checking for summonses, the people also had the chance to report problems faced by the community in the area.

On another development, Dzulbaharin said, this year they have solved three big cases in collaboration with the Kota Kinabalu and State police headquarters.

Among them was the kidnapping of a two-year-old girl who was held hostage, the seizure of contrabands worth RM8.3 million and the confiscation of pangolin meat and scale worth RM8.4 million.

On another note, he said police have identified the suspect responsible for slashing the Australian homestay owner near Kg Kiwoi in Tamparuli, adding however that they need time to nab the suspect.

Meanwhile, a Taman Telipok Ria resident, Hashim Gunsamad, 40, applauded the police actions in making frequent patrols in the area.

“They have been doing a great job at patrolling the area, it somehow reduced our fear especially after the previous child kidnapping incident,” he said.

He said the meet-and greet session should be carried out more frequently to make it easier for residents to approach the police and are not afraid to file a complaint. - R. Gonzales
