MP: Some Ranau Chinese groups not cooperating
RANAU: Chinese associations here have been urged to stay united in making the district a better place and more developed.

Ranau MP Jonathan Yasin said there are many instances where certain efforts could have already been accomplished if there was willingness and cooperation between the many Chinese associations in the district.

“This may be a bitter pill to swallow for some but there exist today certain disharmony among the various ethnicities here. We can see this in activities organised by one group, where the other group would not attend.

“I urge everyone, in line with the spirit of Chinese New Year as well as the new government, let us live in tolerance, understanding, humbleness and sincerity between different sides,” he said.

Jonathan who is also Malaysian Cocoa Board Chairman was officiating the SJK(C) Pai Wen Ranau Chinese New Year Open House that was held at the school’s multipurpose hall on Saturday.

He congratulated the initiative of the school and other related parties to succesfully organised the open house this year and encouraged them to continue such programmes in times to come.

Jonathan also announced contribution of RM10,000 each to the SJK(C) Pai Wen Ranau Administration Board, Ranau Tionghua Peranakan Association and Ranau Hokkien Association.

Also present at the event were Kota Kinabalu Mayor, Hj Nordin Siman, SJK(C) Pai Wen Ranau Headmistress, Ng Li King@Goh Li King, Ranau Tionghua Peranakan Association Chairman, Chia Yin Kiong@Alldem, Ranau Hokkien Association Chairperson, Tee Giok Moi and others. - Clarence G Dol
