Damaged pipeline to blame for dry taps in Bingkor: YB
KENINGAU: A damaged pipeline from the Bunsit water treatment plant here is among the main causes of several villages in the Bingkor area facing a shortage or no supply of water.

A visit to the site near the plant revealed that the damaged pipeline has been left unattended to for the past few months.

“The problem has been neglected for a long time as no action was taken by the department or contractor concerned to rectify the problem,” said Bingkor Assemblyman Robert Tawik who visited the plant.

He said that he was informed by a worker at the plant that the pipes that channel treated water from the plant to a five-million-litre storage tank before it is supplied to the consumers in Bingkor and its surrounding areas suffered similar damage last year but have been repaired.

According to the worker, the pipeline gaskets were damaged again and this caused treated water from the plant to flow into a drain without any action taken by the department or contractor concerned.

“I hope the department will direct its contractor to repair the damaged pipeline so that treated water is not wasted,” Robert said.

He said the problems at the plant were “critical”, as only three of the four pumps there were operational.

“According to the worker, only two pumps were operating and the other on standby.

“The worker also said that the pumps at the plant are not fully operating due to low level of water at the Bayoyo River that simply could not supply enough water into the pumps,” he added.

He said that the water level in the river drop by one centimetre every day due to the current hot and dry weather.

“The water level now is only at 1.5 metres and it cannot cope with the level of water supply into the pumps which is causing the pumps to operate at minimum scale.

“One of the best ways to increase the water level is to improve the water level at the reservoir,” he suggested.

According to Robert, many villages and areas in Bingkor have been facing low water pressure, water supply disruptions or no water supply at all.

These include Kampung Buang Sayang, Jaya Baru, SK Jaya Baru, Bandukan Baru, Tuntumulud, Bingkor Baru, Bingkor Lama, SMK Bingkor, SK Bingkor, Sandapak, Kawasan Kedai Bingkor, Sasaie, Tudan Baru, Toboh Baru, Bayangan, Binaong, Baginda, Singa Mata Bingkor, Kuangoh, Lipasu, Liau Darat, Pagansangan, Labak, Tagai, Bunga Raya, Monitom, Tohan Baru, Merampong, Ontolob, Kampung Baru Bingkor, Kamansi, Tangkongan and the surrounding areas.
