Sandakan tops  in dengue  cases with  4 deaths  this year
SANDAKAN: Sandakan has the highest number of dengue cases in Sabah, with 395 cases reported since the beginning of this year till March 2. Expressing concern over the increasing numbers of cases, State Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Stephen Wong (pic) said four deaths were also reported during the period and this was serious.

He said the number of localities that recorded outbreaks had also increased to 36. “The Government, through the district Health Department and local authorities, has initiated various programmes including awareness, fogging and clean-up to curb the disease. “Although there are preventive activities, it’s not enough. The community has to get together and clean up their area by doing gotong-royong regularly,” he told reporters at a gotong-royong programme at PPR Taman Mesra, Mile 4, recently. The programme was organised by the Sandakan Parliamentary Central Community Service, with the collaboration of the Sandakan Health Office and Sandakan Municipal Council (SMC). Also present were State Health Deputy Director Dr Ismail Ali, SMC Deputy President Hamsan Awang Supain, Sandakan Area Health Officer Dr Johari Awang Besar and Elopura Assemblyman Calvin Chong.

Stephen, who is also Sandakan MP, urged residents to give full co-operation to Sandakan Health Area staff who are now actively carrying out inspection and fogging activities at all the 36 localities.

He also advised those experiencing dengue fever symptoms such as high fever, muscle and joint pain, and headache to seek treatment immediately.
