KOTA KINABALU: Knowledge and innovation are the keys for entrepreneurial success, said State Education and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Yusof Yaacob.

He stressed that entrepreneurs can only go far if they are knowledgeable.

“Apart from that, the innovations by them as well as the support from the relevant quarters are needed to ensure their success,” he said during the Sabah Techpreneur Association’s (Sata) 9th anniversary and appreciation dinner, here, Saturday.

“The natural resources and beauty in the State should be taken advantage of so that the industry would not just focus on tourism and food.

“The creation of latest technology is able to provide many imaginative ideas in the business world.”

He added that entrepreneurs should also be smart in promoting their products through effective methods in tandem with the progress of time.

Entrepreneurs, he said, contributed greatly to the country’s economy.

“This sector helps the Government to provide employment opportunities.

“As such, I urge all entrepreneurs in the State to continue to work with full commitment.”

Towards this end, Yusof said, the Ministry will continue to support Sata’s efforts to drive the State’s economy.

“The Ministry has always been working hard to provide help to fulfil any need for the benefit of the people.

“I understand that handling an association is not an easy task…just like managing the State or the country, it is full of challenges.

“However, these are the challenges that we have to face as the struggle is not only for nine years (for the association) but the fight is ongoing for the development of Sabah.”

Sata was registered in 2010 and it was the first non-governmental organisation in the State which focuses on information technology development.

Also present were Assistant Education and Innovation Minister Jenifer Lasimbang, Deputy Permanent Secretary to the Education and Innovation Ministry Moirah David and Sata President Saverinus Kitingan.
