BETONG: The Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) is collaborating with Chinese telecommunication and digital technology giant Huawei to develop technologies to be used for smart agriculture in Sarawak.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said although certain countries had issues buying Huawei’s its products over national security concerns, the centre was looking forward to the sharing of technologies developed.

“By using digital technology, many farm operations can be better monitored and operated.
“Betong, which is in the Sadok agropolitan area, has a tremendous potential in agriculture. In other words, we can do sophisticated soil analysis to determine its type and mineral content so we can identify the best crops to plant here,” he said after officiating the soft opening of the Betong Centexs here on Tuesday.
Also present were Deputy Chief Ministers, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
Abang Johari said Sarawak was in the process of setting up more Centexs branches – in Lundu, Lawas and Dalat.
