KK in near clean sweep
KOTA KINABALU: The just concluded Sabah Schools Sports Council (MSSS) Tennis Championship titles at stake were mostly won by Kota Kinabalu players.

Sandakan took two titles and Tawau one to deny Kota Kinabalu a clean sweep.

The tournament participated by 140 players was keenly contested. Some of the players were accompanied by their parents and coaches.

Due to budget constraints faced by the State Education Department, Sabah Tennis Association (STA) was requested by a few parents to assist.

After the conclusion of the State level tournament, the players to represent Sabah to the MSSM national-level championship were selected in a meeting of education technical officers together with the parents. STA president Johnson Koh and Secretary Tito Latoja were also present.

According to Johnson, education officer in charge of the sports unit Abdul Hakim explained to the parents  the dilemma facing the State representatives to the national level meet.

An option was tabled for parents to sponsor their kids’ airfare and accommodation if they were selected to represent the State which was agreed to by the all the parents.

STA chipped in to subsidise RM100 for each player in the State squad which consists of 30 players.
