Borneo Highlands  beckons the visitors
KUCHING: Looking for a place to escape to in Sarawak where it’s cool and peaceful, and nature abounds?

Then, Borneo Highlands on the Penrissen Range, some 80km from Kuching, beckons with its 16° to 28°C temperatures and beautiful mountainous views.

The Borneo Highlands Resort, inaugurated by Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in July 2000, and a golf course sit 1,000m above sea level here, and is surrounded by an ancient rainforest.

The entrance fee for day-trippers, paid at the resort guardhouse cum entrance, is RM10 per person, with an extra RM10 if you would like to go to the Kalimantan Viewpoint (at the border with Kalimantan, Indonesia) which is open from 7am to 3pm.

The public are also welcome to take in a flower garden, herb garden, an attractive waterfall and enjoy a spot of birdwatching in this paradise on earth.

Muhammad Waqiuddin, 33, from Pahang, said he is bewitched by the beauty here, adding it’s well taken care of.

“The air is fresh — especially at the Kalimantan lookout — and the waterfall stunning. Who knew Sarawak had many hidden gems,” he said.

A local, James Gadul, 40, said while alluding to Genting Highlands with its theme park: “If this place is reinvigorated, I’m confident it will attract many more visitors and boost the Sarawak tourism sector.” – Bernama
