Brunei team here for friendly matches

KOTA KINABALU: Brunei’s Ikan Pusu football development (PIP) programme team arrived, here, Friday, for a series of friendly matches with the local Tabs team.
The 69-member team led by Rosmawati Haji Mohd Pengiran Salleh was greeted by Tabs deputy chairman Lokman Sunggim, vice chairman, Matasan Ahmad, secretary Juraidah Abdul Rahim and several officials upon their arrival here at the Likas Stadium, Friday.

The matches for players’ Under-10, 13 and 15 age groups between the two teams started on Saturday at the Likas Synthetic Pitch.
Lokman said it was the first time the Sultanate team came to Sabah for friendly matches and hoped the experience will benefit both teams
“We are very happy to have these friendly matches with PIP which was established 19 years ago and it will be a great opportunity for us to share experience and to improvise our programmes on the development of football from the grassroots,” he said.
He also thanked the Sabah Football Association (Safa) for the support of their successful Tabs programme.

Meanwhile, PIP coach Hj Omar Jamil said the series of matches with Tabs over a four-day period is to give exposure to his young players.

According to him, the PIP programme had over the years produced many players for the Brunei national squad.
