140,878 Indonesian voters in Sabah urged to exercise rights

KOTA KINABALU: A total of 140,878 Indonesian voters who have registered with the Indonesian Consulate here, out of some 300,000 Indonesians working in Sabah, have been urged to exercise their rights as citizens by casting their votes in the coming 2019 Indonesian presidential election on April 17, this year.
Making the call, Kota Kinabalu Indonesian Consulate Consul-General Krishna Djelani (pic) said although only half of their citizens in the State are eligible to vote each vote has a very significant contribution to the election results.

He said Sabah has the highest number of Indonesian voters for overseas electorate.
“Of four million Indonesians working overseas, about 2.5 million are in Malaysia.
“The eligible 140,878 voters have fulfilled the criteria of being aged above 17 and already married. However, if the voters are below 17 and married, then they are qualified to register as voters.
“Hence, I would like to call on them to be prepared to cast their votes at two main polling centres here – the Indonesia Consulate and Kota Kinabalu Indonesia School (SIKK).

“A total of 19 ballot boxes will be set up in the Indonesian Consulate here, while seven ballot boxes at SIKK, for the voters to cast their votes on April 17,” he said.
He said there are two Indonesian consulates in Sabah, with the one here catering for the West Coast, Interior, Kudat and Sandakan divisions, while the consulate in Tawau, for the State’s East Coast.
