Kemabong needs hospital badly
TENOM: Kemabong residents hope the health clinic here will be upgraded into a hospital to cater to the local community that has been growing.

With the current Tenom hospital located 40km away, Kampung Marais villager Bataun Bilaad said locals have to endure a lengthy journey, especially from Rundum, which shows that the community needs a hospital at Kemabong.

“Kemabong residents really need the hospital as the journey to Tenom Hospital is too far and tedious, especially when there is an emergency,” he said.

A resident, Phillip Low Kwat Pin, said the Kemabong health clinic was constructed a long time ago and needs to be upgraded into a hospital for the people’s wellbeing.

They said this at the Ziarah Kasih programme led by Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin’s wife, Toh Puan Norlidah R.M Jasni, at the health clinic.

Meanwhile, Kemabong Assemblyman Jamawi Jafaar said the proposal to upgrade the clinic has been delivered to the relevant parties and hoped it could be realised for the sake of more than 29,000 residents in the area.

He said this was done together with Tenom MP Noorita Sual. They submitted the suggestion papers to the Health Ministry at State and Federal levels.

“The Kemabong health clinic can be upgraded to a fully-equipped hospital to cater to the 29,000 population. Moreover, those who suffer from kidney problems are high in the district,” he said.

The health clinic was constructed in 1993 with only one emergency room and four beds with a work force of 35 personnel including three doctors.
