Kolombong sewerage woes: City Hall to see if any blockage
City Hall is looking into the sewerage woes at a commercial centre in one part of Kolombong. A spokesman for the agency said it would determine whether there were any blockages in the sewer line servicing the building.

“If this proves to be the case, we will arrange to clear any blockages in the sewer lines servicing the building,” he said.

“In the past, the pipes have been clogged with congealed bits of used cooking oil.”

He explained that the contractor tasked with maintaining the sewerage there had inspected the manholes regularly, in light of earlier complaints that the latter had been overflowing.

The spokesman was responding to a complaint that a manhole at the centre had been overflowing for several days, much to the dismay of shopkeepers nearby.

One such operator, NG, contacted Hotline on March 19, saying the stench of the effluence was driving his customers away.

“The foul smell even permeates the carpark in the basement,” he said.

“Some unit owners in the building cannot use their toilets. Every time the flush is pulled the water in bowl does not recede.”

He said some proprietors had contacted the local authorities for help but no action had been forthcoming. Ng provided Hotline with the location of the affected manhole. This information was forwarded to City Hall. (SS)
