Entertainer, Globinaco among Top Achievers

KOTA KINABALU: Popular Sabah entertainer Ampal was among more than 30 recipients of the Sabah Top Achievers Awards 2019 at a gala dinner here Friday night.
Ampal, whose real name is Abu Bakar Ellah, 60, and has been in the entertainment business since 1981, received the award under the “Legendary Artist” category.

The lyricist, composer, singer and actor said after the awards ceremony that he was deeply honoured to be given the recognition.
Also present were Deputy Home Minister Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman and Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau who represented Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal in officiating the event.
Also honoured (posthumously) were four Mount Kinabalu mountain guides who were killed in the Ranau earthquake tragedy in 2015.
They were Robbi Sapinggi and Joseph Solungin from the Gunung Kinabalu Mountain Guides Association and Ricky Masirin and Valerian Joannes from Mountain Torq Sdn Bhd.

Meanwhile, Globinaco Sdn Bhd was named top achiever in the Industry Excellence in Infrastructure category.
The award was presented by Mohd Azis to Globinaco Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Dr Lawrence Chu.
