Expedite Tawau dam project: YB

TAWAU: The State Government has been urged to expedite implementation of the Air Gudang Empat Dam Project to meet the needs of the people and address the water crisis in some parts of the district.ADVERTISEMENT
Balung Assemblyman Datuk Osman Jamal said the dam can ensure the needs of the people are met once completed.
He said the project was understood to be have been postponed due to several matters which needed to be taken into consideration by the relevant parties.
He said he will bring the matter to the State Legislative Assembly, including several other projects in the district which are seen as important and need to be implemented immediately.
He said this to reporters after a meeting with Tawau Water Engineer Asabri Robensen and Bandar Sri Indah residents at the Tawau Water Department, here, following a 10-day “water crisis” at the settlement.

The meeting also saw residents’ representatives presenting a memorandum on the water crisis to Osman.
Meanwhile, Osman said the meeting saw a short-term solution whereby water will be gradually channelled to the residents from the Balung Water Treatment Plant within 24 hours.

Bandar Sri Indah has about 8,000 residents getting water from the LRA Utara. However, water could not be channelled due to the low water level in the river.

Meanwhile, Bandar Sri Indah Phase 1 Neighbourhood Watch Chairman Yusri Yumasan, 45, expressed appreciation and relief with the initiative reached during the meeting.
However, he said, if the short-term solution cannot be fulfilled, they do not rule out the possibility of staging a demonstration once again until their needs are taken into account.
