Three killed in LD collision
LAHAD DATU: Three people were killed while two others, including a two-year-old boy, suffered injuries after a Toyota Vigo and a Toyota Vios collided at Km 36, Lahad Datu-Sandakan road, Thursday morning.

The deceased were Chong Shu Fah, 39, the Vios driver from Tawau, and his passengers Chong Soo Feh, 46, and Chong Yee Fai, 15, both from Keningau.

District Police Chief ACP Nasri Mansor said the three succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while the Vigo driver, a 35-year-old woman, and her two-year-old son were injured in the 6.16am incident.

He said the tragedy occurred when the Vios went out of control and entered the opposite lane after passing through a corner and collided with the Vigo.

“The accident happened on a hilly and windy road. We are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving,” he said.

Nasri said the deceased were taken to the Lahad Datu Hospital for post-mortem, while the mother and son received outpatient treatment.

The Fire and Rescue Department, in a statement, said two fire engines and an emergency medical rescue services vehicle with 11 personnel were deployed to the scene after being alerted at 6.18am.
