KOTA KINABALU: A local man stumbled upon a bomb, believed to be from the World War II era, while digging a grave at the Kampung Lobong cemetery in Puala Gaya, off here, Friday.
The discovery prompted the 56-year-old to alert Pulau Gaya police station at about 5pm, according to Acting City Police Chief Supt. George Abd Rakman.

Further inspection showed the bomb measured 13 inches long and has a 12-inch width.
Police cordoned off the area for safety purposes as a bomb disposal unit was deployed to the site to detonate the bomb at about 11.30am on Saturday.
The discovery of bombs dating back to the World War II is not uncommon in Sabah.
In January this year, a three-foot long bomb was unearthed near a school in Kudat, while last year, a bomb, believed to be a mortar, was found at the plantation areas of Ladang Sahabat 17 in Lahad Datu in August.
