Sabah duo help M’sia retain title

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s Jessica Keng and Yee Xin Ying helped Malaysia to defend their mixed team title at the 5th SEA Cup Squash Championship 2019 which ended at the Philippine Squash Academy in Taguig, Saturday.
The team beat Singapore 3-1 in the final with Jessica, who was the only player in the squad not from Bukit Jalil Sports School, delivering the opening point after beating Au Yeong Wai Yhann 11-8, 12-10, 11-4.

It was the second victory for Jessica against the same opponent as the pair had met in the group stage where Jessica also won in straight sets 11-9, 11-9, 11-8, and the team went on to beat Singapore 3-2 to top Group B.
Earlier in the semi-final, Malaysia whitewashed Indonesia 3-0 and Yee Xin Ying delivered a point with a comfortable 11-8, 11-5, 11-1 win over Yaisha Putri Yasandi.

Yee also featured in the group 3-0 win over Brunei where she beat Najwa Ali 11-1, 11-1, 11-2 while Jessica brushed aside Hamidah Ismail 11-2, 11-1, 11-5.
Meanwhile, Jessica was unable to defend her singles crown in the individual event held from April 9-10, where she lost to teammate and eventual champion Noor Ainaa Amani Ampandi 9-11, 12-14, 8-11 in the quarterfinal. – GL Oh
