Interior eye boxing crown

KOTA KINABALU: Team Interior have set themselves an ambitious goal of winning the President Cup Boxing Championship to be held here at the Luyang multi-purpose hall on April 24.
It is the first time the team are invited by the Sabah Boxing Association to take part in the championship as no competition will be held in the interior district this year.

They are expected to face boxers from the West Coast zone including Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Papar, Ranau, Kota Belud, Penampang and the Armed Forces from Lok Kawi.
Team manager cum coach Fabian Tonny Peter said he has instructed his boxers to give their best and try to return with the overall title.
“This is our first appearance in the tournament and we are expecting stiff competition and that will be of great help to prepare our title defence at the Mayor Cup Championship in July.
“Therefore, I have called on the athletes to grab the opportunity and give their best to win the Cup in our first attempt,” he said on Wednesday.

He also disclosed that their star boxer Rendell R. Kadayum (60 kg) from Tambunan has opted out of the President Cup competition due to work commitment but he will be available for the Mayor Cup.

The team with Arthur Udang as head coach and Timmy A. Mylon as his assistant will comprise of eight boxers led by Samuel Johnson Michael (75kg) from Keningau who won gold in the Kuching Sukma Games.

The others are 2017 Sabah Games gold medallist William Peter (Keningau – 49kg), Fabio Peter Fabian (Tambunan – 52kg), who was voted best State youth boxer in 2017, Frinkline J. Liman (Tambunan – 56kg), Moen Justinus (Keningau – 60kg), Kevin Albert (Keningau – 64kg), Jeamsson Johnny (Tambunan – 69kg), Samuel J. Michael (Keningau – 75kg) and Addle Joe (Tambunan – 81kg).
