KOTA KINABALU: Some 40 La Sallians and friends took part in the recent Datuk Brother Charles O’Leary Challenge Trophy Golf tournament held at the Sabah Golf and Country Club (SGCC).

The tournament held in memory of the late Datuk Brother Charles M O’Leary was initially started in 1985.

Then in 2012, a challenge trophy named after the former La Salle Secondary School’s Principal and mentor, who himself was an avid golfer, was sponsored by the class of 81.

After a lapse of seven years, the tournament was revived again this year when a few old boys decided to organise it so that they could continue to share their personal experiences and memories they had with Brother Charles.

Organising secretary Richard Stidi said they are very pleased with the response even though it was held during weekday.

The tournament was won by the foursome of Datuk James Wong, Datuk Paiman Hj Karim, Datuk SS Liew and Raymond  Lim.

The prizes were presented by Datuk Stan Yee and also present were Sabah Golf Association Datuk George Bandusena, KGC President Hj Shahriman Abdullah  and SGCC President Shiak Vui Ming, who is also the tournament director.
