Over 20 bush fire cases reported in Kunak this year

KUNAK: A total of 24 cases of bush fire were reported within the first three months of this year (January to March) in Kunak.The Fire Department managed to save properties worth RM109,970.

During the same period, property losses caused by fire worth RM135,030 were recorded.
Kunak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Chief, Nicholas Melvin Jaikul, said that within that period a total of 32 fire cases were recorded that include 24 bush fires, three structural fire cases and five, other cases.
“The highest were bush fires,” he told Daily Express.
The situation is due to the hot and dry weather phenomenon, he said.

The public are advised not to conduct open burning or throw cigarette butts into flammable areas such as bushes, especially during hot weather.
A total of 12 Fire Operations (Rescue) were recorded during the respective period involving four road accidents, three snake-catching cases (poisonous animals/animals in premises and residential areas) and five rescue operations.

There were two cases involving injuries in rescue operations but no deaths were reported, Nicholas said.
He said 166 public fire hydrants and 18 private fire hydrants have been installed in the district.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

The department is also in the midst of proposing to install four new fire hydrants at certain location that have been identified this year.
At the same time, seven fire hydrants are undergoing maintenance process, he said.
