SOWRC successfully retain title
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Osca Warriors (SOWRC) successfully defended their title at the Kasi Group KK League Rugby Championship which concluded at Penampang Sports Complex on Saturday.

They defeated first time finalist Sabah Barbarians Old Boys (SABORC) 15-10 in the final to take the crown for the second year running.

The champions dominated the match at the start and raced to a 8-0 lead at half time from a penalty kick by Jonathan Sauzah followed by a try from Marommie Roland.

Despite their dominance, SOWRC found it hard to penetrate their opponents’ defence and it was only after 10 minutes into the second half that they made the breakthrough with a try from Marommie again and the followed up conversion was successfully done by Jonathan.

SABORC’s response was swift as Eddie Masrin scored the first try for them, and in the final minutes of the game they scored another try by Razitaman Kaalam, but it came too late and the final score stood at 15-10 to the champions.

In third place were last year’s losing finalists KK Sharks who beat Sabah Osca Warriors Pangaits 17-10 in the play off while the plate final was won by Monsters Rugby with a 23-5 win over  Keningau Crocs.

Managing Director of Kasi Group Benjamin Nair representing his father Datuk Captain Walter, who is the Chief Executive Officer said that Kasi Group will continue to sponsor the tournament as it is a social and community responsibility to give the youth a platform to showcase their skills and also to help the sport in the State.

Meanwhile, the organisers expressed their gratitude to Walter and all the sponsors for their support.
