Polytech aims to produce highly-abled human capital

KOTA KINABALU: The Polytechnic and Community College Education Department hopes to produce highly-abled human capital especially with the Polytechnic and Community College Strategic Plan (2018-2025) in place.

Among core values listed in the strategic plan includes creativity and innovation, integrity, agility and professionalism, said the Department’s Director-General, Prof Dato’ Dr Mohd Ismail Abdul Aziz.

He said this during his address in conjunction with the Department’s State-level “Perkhidmatan Cemerlang Tahun (APC) 2018” award ceremony held at the Kota Kinabalu Polytehnic’s auditorium, here, Monday.
A total of 60 recipients comprising 41 from polytechnic and 19 from the Community College in Sabah were awarded the Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang for their outstanding contribution towards achieving the institutions’ vision and mission.
Elaborating further on the core values, Mohd Ismail urged those in the polytechnic and community college to always be creative in their thinking and to make wise decisions while inculcating creativity in their work.
He said creativity will produce many new ideas and innovations which can further boost the institutions excellence.
As for integrity, he said, such values should be the way of life and practised in one’s daily work to ensure the institution is not only efficient and trustworthy but also respected.

He said the same goes for agility, which includes the ability to be efficient, proactive and fast when responding or providing feedback to changes within the organisation.
“Today’s rapid development requires us to act fast and efficiently, especially with technology which grows sophisticated each day,” he said.
On professionalism, he express confidence in the Department’s ability to instil the values of leadership professionalism among those in the polytechnic and community colleges.
He said being professional means being highly committed, responsible, skilled, and creative and innovated and above all having integrity when carrying out tasks.
Meanwhile, Sabah is the first out of five zones throughout the country to organise the Polytechnic and Community College Department’s APC 2018 Ceremony with Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic as the host.
The 41 polytechnic recipients are from Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Tawau, a majority from Kota Kinabalu with a total of 33.
While, the 19 community college recipients are from eight community colleges across Sabah, namely, Tawau, Semporna, Lahad Datu, Sandakan, Tambunan, Beaufort, Penampang and Kota Kinabalu.

Each recipient were awarded APC certificates and Certificate of National Education Savings Scheme worth RM1,000.
Also present were Polytechnic Kota Kinabalu Director TS Zainab Othman and Polytechnic and Community College Department Management Services Division Director Nooraidah Abdullah.
