‘One for all and all for one’ on drug combat
RANAU: Every villager must stand together in recognising drug abuse and all related activities as the number one enemy which needs to be vanquished.

Ranau MP Jonathan Yasin said one of the bolstered efforts to be adopted by the villagers, together with the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), is to reach out to individuals and families who face drug problems so they don’t feel marginalised.

“One of the strategies that I think is very effective in combating the drug menace is to focus on community involvement.

“It is an effort that must be intensified so the community itself is aware that the responsibility to tackle this problem does not lie on the government’s shoulders alone.

“The community must know what is happening in their area and to report to the authorities for further action. This integrated effort is expected to address the problems that are of concern to us all.

“Based on these strategies, AADK has to go down to the grassroots level. At the same time, the community also needs to be given extensive knowledge on the drug menace,” he said.

Jonathan, who is also Malaysian Cocoa Board Chairman, said this on behalf of Deputy Home Minister, Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman, while officiating at the “Program Jelajah Kesedaran Bahaya Dadah Dan Konvoi Ke Program Regatta Lepa Jubli Perak 2019” held at the Ranau Monthly Tamu Ground.

Mohd Azis was involved in a motorcycle accident in Tuaran while riding to the event along with several big bikers from their association, and had to be rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed to have suffered broken left thigh.

In the event, he commended the commitment of AADK, Sabah Big Bikers Association, PDRM, Pemadam, Ranau District Office as well as those who supported the cause.

“AADK has done a brilliant transformation to render services to patients through means such as the Cure and Care Clinic that gives ‘open access service’, which is free of charge.

“Apart from that, the AADK Squad which consists of youths from our own communities across the State is a very positive move by the agency in bringing our younger generation to fight drug abuse.

“I am confident that with the involvement of all parties in combating this heinous and deadly illness among our society, we could eventually to defeat it once and for all,” said Jonathan.

Also present at the event were Paginatan Assemblyman Datuk Abidin Madingkir, Sabah AADK Director Bakri bin Bibi, Ranau District Officer Mohd Yassin bin Ibrahim, National Pemadam Secretary Burhanuddin bin Disa and Sabah Big Bikers Association President Hj Osman Bin Ahmad, among others.
