Make proper requests for funds, Ranau folks told
RANAU: Villagers should understand the proper channel through which government allocations flow to their areas and make a request accordingly, said Paginatan Assemblyman Datuk Abidin Madingkir.

“Allocations for villages usually come from two sources, namely the Federal Government via the MP’s Office and the State Government via the State Assemblyman’s Office.

“For Ranau, the Parliamentary Office of MP Jonathan Yasin manages finances for the entire Ranau parliamentary constituency. For State Assembly seats such as Paginatan, the allocation through the Assemblyman is for use only in the particular Assembly seat.

“The allocations for Paginatan cannot be used for other areas,” he said when attending a “Santai Bersama Rakyat” programme in Kg Mangkapoh, here.

However, he said, in some constituencies like Kundasang, the State Cabinet has formed a Co-ordinators Committee jointly chaired by the closest government Assemblyman (himself) and the Kundasang Community Development Leader (PPM) there, Siriman Basir.

“This is not only formed for the Ranau District but also other areas in Sabah where there is no government elected representative,” he added, when commenting on an application for allocation by villagers for certain development in Kg Mangkapoh.

Abidin, who is also Upko Vice President, assured that all applications from the villagers will be brought up at the Kundasang Coordinators Committee meeting and hoped all the applications submitted will be approved.

On the appointment of village heads, he said when the appointment letter has been issued it is very difficult for one to be revoked unless there is clear evidence that a village head has failed to perform his or her responsibilities.
