29 nabbed over illegal gambling in Papar

PAPAR: Police here detained 29 individuals and seized items worth RM20,000 following a series of operation against illegal gambling at several locations, here.
District Police Chief DSP Batholomew Ak Umpit said the operations were carried out from Jan 1 to April 30 at Kinarut Settlement, Bongawan and areas within the district by 15 personnel and police officers.

“Twenty-four investigating papers were opened against the individuals comprising 28 locals and one foreigner where the total detainees involved 27 men and two women aged between 17 and 52,” he said after the IPD Papar Monthly Assembly, Tuesday.
Batholomew said police also seized items such as 30 mobile phones, 12 portable printers and cash worth RM11,051.
The cases are being investigated under various sections of the Common Gaming House Act 1963.
Meanwhile, 73 individuals, including two civil servant were nabbed and RM2,000 worth of drugs seized in another series of operation carried out at the Kinarut Settlement, Bongawan and areas around here, from April 1 to 29.

He said the suspects comprised 60 locals and 13 foreigners where 71 of them were men and two women aged between 20 and 40.
“Police were able to seize 23.99gm of syabu. Four of the suspects are being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for supplying.

“Five individuals are being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 while 64 others were detained after being found positive,” he added.
Batholomew also expressed his gratitude to the public for their continuous cooperation in channelling information pertaining to illegal gambling and drug activities and hopes such collaboration will be maintained.
