MP raps Ranau Water Dept on chlorine shortage
RANAU: Member of Parliament Jonathan Yasin said the recent diarrhoea incident he recalled the recent illness outbreak in the district where about 200 people, mostly children, suffered from vomiting, was linked to chlorine.

“I was informed that there was a shortage in chlorine supply at the Water Department. For reasons unknown, there was not enough chlorine supply for water treatment purposes.

“Towards that end, we want to voice our disappointment about the issue because such case was never supposed to happen. We hope those in the Ranau Water Department could take a more pro active action next time.

“They must ensure that this incident will not recur. Make sure you store enough supplies of all important items, and don’t wait until problems develop before acting,” he said.

In regard to the programme, he congratulated all the doctors, nurses, staff, as well as local leaders and the members of the community there to make the event successful, and urge them to continue to organise such event in the future.

Meanwhile, Jonathan said Wellness is more than physical health, exercise or nutrition. It is the state of being fully alive by having physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

“It is not to say that physical health is less important. On the contrary, we must remember that without physical health, one would not be able to go out and work to feed the family.

“That is why it is important to practice healthy lifestyles through healthy diet. Healthy eating is not about strict dietary limitations or depriving yourself of the foods you love. Rather, it’s about feeling great and improving your health.

“But a healthy body is useless if one is unhealthy spiritually. Spiritual wellness is a personal matter involving values and beliefs that provide a purpose in our lives. Without spiritual health, a physically fit individual may opt to steal from others and this is not good,” he said.

Jonathan who is also Malaysian Cocoa Board Chairman was speaking when officiating the “Program Bulan Pemakanan” in Kg Pinawantai, jointly organised by the Advisory Panel of the Timbua Health Clinic and community leaders in Kg Pinawantai on Monday.

In the event, Jonathan approved an allocation of RM50,000 for the purpose of cementing the roads to the homes in Kg Pinawantai, as well as RM10,000 for the health clinic here to make their necessary developments.
