Two injured in Ranau paragliding accident
RANAU: Two people, including a tourist, cheated death in a paragliding accident here on Friday. Ranau Fire and Rescue Department Chief Ridwan Mohd Taib (pic) said the incident happened at about 3.20pm at the paragliding take-off field near the Ranau Sports Complex.

He said paraglider Sawrianto Sawin, 44, and passenger, Lei Teng, 29, a tourist from China, fell from an unknown height into a forested area about 2.5km from the nearest road.

“We received a distress call from the public that a paragliding pair fell into a nearby forest and rushed a Scania BMD4509 fire engine and an EMRS vehicle with six personnel to the location.

“When we arrived, we were informed about the two victims who suffered injuries. There was no access for vehicles to where the incident took place. Our personnel had to carry on foot medical equipment and stretcher through the bush.

“Upon reaching the area, we found both victims suffered hip injuries and gave them emergency treatment, before they were carried out and handed over to the ambulance unit for further action,” he said.

Ridwan advised those who love extreme sports activities to be more careful and mind the weather.

“They must ensure everything is safe before getting involved in such activities,” he said.
