PBS reminds Anwar of  role in toppling elected govt
SANDAKAN: Parti Bersatu Sabah said it was the State election winner in 1994 but ended up in the opposition because several assemblyman hopped to the then Barisan Nasional “which many claimed was engineered by Datuk Seri Anwar after as the BN’s director of operations, he failed to secure a BN victory”.

This was alleged by PBS Information chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, in response to mocking by the PKR President that PBS is insignificant.

“It is tantamount to belittling Sabahans,” said Bangkuai.

“He described PBS as insignificant and yet he flew all the way here to campaign for the DAP candidate. We are a nobody to Anwar and yet the likes of other PH big wigs such as Mohd Sabu, Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng and Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, to mention some, saw it necessary to come (to Sandakan),” he said.

He said that the future of PBS is not decided by Anwar, but the people Sabah, and in the case of Sandakan, by the voters here through the by-election.

“It is actually flattering that all the PH leaders are flocking into Sandakan to garner support for their candidate to fight against an ‘insignificant’ party.

“His remarks clearly amplify his arrogance. He should, instead, focus on giving answers to the people in Sandakan on PH, particularly PKR’s, failure to fulfill their numerous election promises.

“What happened to your promise that the day PH formed the government, you’ll bring the oil prices down?” Joniston asked.

He said such bullying by a so-called national leader will only spur PBS, the longest surviving local party, to steadfastly fight for the interest of the State and Sabahans, which has been the party’s core struggle since its inception in 1985.

PBS is contesting in the by-election because the party has an experienced candidate with the ability to effectively represent Sandakan.

It must be noted that other opposition parties, both national and local-based, decided to lend support to the PBS candidate, Datuk Linda Tsen Thau Lin, “because the party, being a time-tested local party, is capable of giving the DAP a run for its money”.
