Department to monitor water supply to Kg Hungab

The Water Department will monitor the supply to Kg Hungab, Penampang, from time to time to ensure that consumers there receive tap water as they should.

A spokesman for the agency said damage to a distribution main in one part of the district was to blame for the dry taps in the village on a recent Saturday.

“Our staff found that an 18-inch pipe near a bank in Donggongon had burst late Friday,” he said.

“The strength of the water being channelled to these consumers improved after the necessary repairs were completed a day later.”

Nevertheless, he said, the Department’s staff would periodically check that a supply reaches the village.

“At the same time, we hope that the residents will inform us when they are without a supply so that action can be taken  to deal with these water woes as soon as possible.”

NADINE of Penampang bemoaned the low water pressure of the supply which those living in the village noticed.

She bemoaned the inconvenience caused by the water trickling from the taps in her home.

“The water in my storage tank is almost depleted,” she said, adding that the supply had been irregular for a few days already.

“It is difficult to prepare meals, let alone wash up or do my laundry, when the supply is so unreliable.”

Nadine claimed that the taps frequently ran dry whenever it rained heavily.

“I do not understand why this is so,” she said. “I would have thought that an abundance of water would be a boon for water production, instead of a hindrance.” (SS)
