TAWAU: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) here reminded traders and wholesalers in the State not to hoard controlled items during the festive season.
Putrajaya KPDNHEP Deputy Enforcement Director (Special Operations Branch, Rosli Ahmad, said action under Section 15 of the Supply Control Supplies Act 1961 can be taken against those found hoarding.

The Section carries a fine of up to RM100,000 and up to three years jail, if convicted.
He said they would continue to monitor to ensure that there is sufficient and affordable controlled items such as sugar, wheat flour and cooking oil which is in high demand during the festive season.
He said this during a media conference after leading inspections on controlled items at a wholesalers’ warehouse in Taman Anson, Jalan Kuhara, here, Tuesday.
Also present were Putrajaya KPDNHEP Controlled Items Section Head, Azman Adam, Sabah Enforcement Chief, Ravichandran Vadivellu and Tawau KPNDHEP Branch Chief, Aslani Dabi.

On that note, Rosli assured that there is sufficient supply of sugar, wheat flour and cooking oil in Sabah, including Tawau, to accommodate the Kaamatan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
He said there is no need for consumers to panic or worry about the possibility of shortage of these items during the festive season, adding that if they are not able to get their supply from regular shops, they can do so at supermarkets and appointed retail shops.

For Tawau, the Ministry has appointed 14 retailers to ease the needs of consumers.

According to him, the KPDNHEP Domestic Trade Unit recorded 18 major wholesalers of sugar, flour and cooking oil in Tawau with a total quantity of 2,750 metric tonnes for sugar, flour (1,220 metric tonnes) and packet subsidised cooking oil (724 metric tonnes).
