CM to name new Health Minister today
KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal is expected to announce the new Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister today (Friday) before leaving for Kuala Lumpur to attend the third meeting of Special Committee on Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). It is due at 3pm the same day, to be chaired by the Prime Minister.

“I will make the announcement tomorrow (Friday) ...it is filling up (the vacant post), no reshuffle,” he said when asked by reporters after he accompanied Mayor Datuk Nordin Siman and other State leaders in giving away free 1000 bubur lambok to the public at the Ramadhan bazaar at Lintasan Deasoka Thursday.

The post was left vacant since Datuk Stephen Wong Tien Fatt, who was the Minister and ex-Sandakan MP, passed away due to heart attack on March 28. The post had since was placed temporarily under Youth and Sport Minister Datuk Frankie Poon as the caretaker minister.

On the issue of police Special Branch (SB) “not allowed” to attend press conferences held by the State Government, Mohd Shafie said he raised the matter during Wednesday’s State Cabinet meeting where they decided there will be no restriction for any party to attend any press conferences held by the Chief Minister and Ministers.

“There is no regulation decided by the Government to restrict any party from attending the press conferences by the Chief Minister and ministers.

“No standard procedure or ruling on this (restriction). Even if there is that decision not true, it did not come from the Chief Minister or the State Government.

“The SB personnel can come anytime and listen to what we talk about during any press conference...why should we prevent them,” said the Chief Minister.

“There is no reason to stop them from attending, because whatever is said (in the press conference) will come out in the newspaper tomorrow. So it is unnecessary (the restriction). I want to state here that that is not a Government policy.

“There is no such government policy. Even that time when served in Kuala Lumpur there is no such a government policy. There is no such a restriction, all can come there is no problem,” said Mohd Shafie.

On the claim by divers that the turtle population in Semporna has declined, Mohd Shafie said he will direct the relevant authorities concerned to check whether it is true or not.

Mohd Shafie however declined to comment but smiled, when asked if there is Raya bonus the State civil servants.
