Hoping for a positive impact
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Tambadaus will be hoping their two new signings can help the team to bring back three points in the Premier League clash against UKM at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium tonight (Friday).

They signed former Angola national striker Aguinaldo Veiga Mendes and Turkmenistan international midfielder Ahmet Atayew on Monday to boost their attacking option.

Head coach Jelius Ating felt that although the team is doing well in the competition so far, they still missed a bit of spark in terms of their finishing ability.

“We are very happy that we will have the two new players with us, hopefully they can deliver what we are expecting from them to rectify our weaknesses in finishing.

“I hope they will give a positive impact to the team and give us a winning result even though I feel that they are not yet a hundred percent fit physically.”

He also hoped the team will maintain their winning momentum in the second match of the second round competition.

“We know there is another away match coming next (Penang on May 25), so it is important that we don’t slip up and a point is a minimum against UKM tomorrow because our target in the second round matches is to bring back at least a point from each match.

“We cannot underestimate our opponents as well, because they are a very good team. The players will need to work extra hard and so far I am very pleased with their performance and attitude in training.

“Hopefully they can perform what they have shown in training on the pitch tomorrow to bring back three points that will be even better.”

Meanwhile, there will not be any major surprises in the team starting line-up with all imports set to play.

“We will put out all four imports and I am very happy that we managed to get the two new players’ ITC (international transfer certificate) on time for the match so we will take full advantage of their availability.

“There will not be many changes with the exception of right back Randy Baruh who has to sit out a one match suspension after collecting three yellow cards.

“His position will be taken by Dendy Lowa and Evan Wensley Wenceslaus who did well in the last match will keep his left back position while the rest are the same apart from the two imports,” he said.

The probable starting 11 for Sabah tonight are Rozaimie Rohim in goal, Rawilson Batuil, Park Taesu, Dendy Lowa, Evan Wensley Wenceslaus in defence, Azizzan Nordin and Ahmet Atayew in midfield supported by Alto Linus on the right and Jenius Karib on the left while Rodoljub Paunovic and Aguinaldo Mendes will lead the attack.
