New concrete slabs on KK Central Market walkway

City Hall installed two new concrete slabs on the walkway in the Central Market at Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens recently to replace the old ones which were damaged.
ADVERTISEMENT The authority concerned was alerted by Hotline earlier about the need to replace the damaged structures as it had been left unattended for more than a month.
One of the hawkers there contacted Hotline not too long ago to voice out his concerns about the matter as not only it deprived them a spot to push their trolley but posed an eyesore as well.
A City Hall spokeswoman apologised to members of the public for the delay to replace the collapsed slabs in question.
“We have also checked the condition of similar structures there apart from attending to these two areas,” she added.

She urged motorists particularly lorry drivers to refrain from parking on top of the walkway to prevent the concrete structures from sustaining such damage.
“Broken plastic and metal chairs were put into the hole by concerned members of the public to cordon off the area so that pedestrians are aware of the danger ahead,” said TAN, who frequents that part of the walkway to reach his stall.

He was under the impression that the damage was caused by the massive weight of a vehicle laden with goods which was parked on top of the walkway.
“It is commonplace to see medium-sized lorry on the walkway during loading period in the wee hours,” he added.
He urged the City Hall to set up barricades at the side of the five-foot-way concerned to deter errant drivers from misusing the place.
