658 illegals deported  via Sandakan and Tawau
SANDAKAN: The National Security Council Sabah (NSC Sabah) repatriated 658 Indonesian and Filipino illegal immigrants on Thursday.According to NSC Sabah Director Sh. Sitti Saleha Habib Yussof, 560 of the total were deported to Zamboanga, Philippines, via Sandakan Port, while the other 98 were deported to Nunukan, Indonesia, via Tawau Port. “The Filipinos comprised 308 men, 152 women, 57 boys and 43 girls, while the Indonesians comprised 71 men, 23 women, three boys and a girl,” she said, in a statement, Friday.

For this year until May 16, she said the NSC repatriated a total of 5,068 illegal immigrants, bringing to 582,139 the overall number repatriated since 1990.

Sitti said the NSC’s effort to deport illegal immigrants was continuing, which showed the State Government was serious in curbing the issue.

“Therefore, I would like to remind that it is a serious offence to harbour or hire illegals, under the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Amendment 2002).

“Those caught committing the offence can be fined not less that RM5,000 and not more than RM30,000 or jail not exceeding 12 months, or both, for each illegal immigrant they had hired.” Sitti said the Government and NSC (Sabah) always acted in line with the national law and complied with the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP).

“The NSC will always strive to ensure Sabah achieves its goal of zero illegal immigrants and will not compromise with any party for the safety and prosperity of Sabahans.”
