Marine cops committed in monitoring State’s waters
SANDAKAN: Sabah Region 4 Marine Police Force (PPM) officers and personnel have greater task on their shoulders in monitoring the State’s waters throughout the fasting month and Hari Raya.

Commander ACP Mohamad Pajeri Ali said PPM officers and personnel will also make sure that they will perform their duties to the best of their abilities.

“We in Sabah have to watch over a wide sea area compared to the other four PPM regions in the Peninsula and Sarawak,” he said, while thanking and commending their commitment for willing to work and be far away from their respective family especially during the festive season.

He said this when met at a breaking of fast with PPM Sandakan at waters near Bai Island, Thursday. Mohamad Pajeri said PPM members will continue to be committed in performing the tasks entrusted to them, especially in monitoring the State’s waters against unwanted elements like smuggling, kidnapping and cross border crimes.

The Region 4 PPM has nearly 1,000 officers and personnel with 90 assets used for operations within the State. It will be receiving 25 more General Operations Force (PGA) boats for security operations, particularly within the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) area.

Meanwhile, several of the officers and personnel met at the event also shared their experiences working at sea during Ramadan and Hari Raya. Sergeant Zol Keffle Ishak, 49, from Kedah, who has been assigned here since 28 years ago, said he seldom go back to his village due to work and the last time he went back for Raya was in 2014. He said his siblings from Jeniang, Kedah, would normally visit him and his wife and children at their home in Sandakan. Lance Corporal Muhammad Faridh Abdul Rahman, 26, hopes his wife and family will continue to understand the duties and responsibilities entrusted to him and will not be able to go home to celebrate Raya in his village. Muhammad Faridh, who got married in 2017, has been in Region 4 since 2016 where his first assignment was at Mabul Island in Semporna. “I have accumulated a lot of good and bad experiences while on duty with my colleagues who are like a family and has been celebrating Raya without a family member for four years while at sea,” he said, while wishing Hari Raya Aidil Fitri to his wife and family in Perak. The Region 4’s Intelligence and Operations Division Chief, DSP Ab Rahman Mat Hasan, meanwhile said there are a lot challenges for the force in Sabah compared to other PPM region,s including intrusion, kidnapping and other incidents.

Having been on assignment in Sabah since 1995, he hopes PPM members here will continue to be committed to their daily tasks. A 30-year-old father of three, Inspector Khairulanuar Ibrahim, who has been here for four years, hopes to bring cheers to all and is also missing his family back in Penang who never fail to send him ketupat and rendang  every Raya.
