PENAMPANG: Penampang Assemblywoman Jenifer Lasimbang on Saturday launched her Mobile State Assembly (DUN) Office – the first in the State.
Describing the move as practical and more effective, she said Donggongon town is a strategic place for her constituency to meet up with the people.

“Two conspicuous things happen today – launching of our Penampang Mobile DUN Office which I believe is the first in Sabah and merging of DUN office with the Penampang Community Development Unit (UPPM) office, which I see is more practical and effective,” she said.
“It is better that my DUN office is moveable from one place to another so that more people can be served.
“We reform a bit of system, so it is easier for everyone to discharge his or her respective responsibility. I hope with this, I and UPPM would serve the rakyat (people) under Moyog more effectively,” Jenifer said at the launching in Buhavan Square, Donggongon.
With the merger, she said, it would be more expedite in solving problems faced by the people as well as no communication breakdown internally.

She also announced that she would be attending a meet-the-people session twice a week in her new office in UPPM, and the schedule of her meeting with the people would be announced in due course.
Jenifer also said the task of UPPM is important as they would identify the problems and find solutions to overcome any predicament faced by the people. Currently, Penampang UPPM is headed by Benjamin Soikun.

“UPPM is under the Chief Minister’s Department. Their role is crucial in assisting the assemblyman/woman to identify and solve problems, and so on.
“They are the community leaders discharging their duties hand-in-hand with me in my constituency and with the mobile office available now, we will try to cover places (in the interior) where it is difficult for the people to come out.
“We will go to their villages instead to help them with their respective problems,” she added.
She also explained that under each area, there would be a Village Community Management Council (MPKK) which will oversee the wellbeing of a few villages.
There are 42 MPKKs with each administering a few villages and would communicate with UPPM on the predicament of the villages under their care respectively.
“Many people think Penampang is near the city and there are not much problems faced by the people. But Penampang is a wide and huge district and that is why we come out with a mobile office in order to cover far-flung areas.”
There are about 100,000 residents and Penampang is a fast growing population, said Jenifer.
She noted that there are still many who do not get assistance (due to distance) and with the mobile office, she hoped the rural people would be served better.
She also said with the newly set-up mobile office, they would be collaborating with mobile clinic to go to the interior and serve the people better.
“Infrastructure such as road is very much needed in the interior of Penampang. Road access to many rural places is still lacking. Therefore, this problem is also one of my priorities that I will look into.”
