Sabah windsurfer is third overall
KOTA KINABALU: Sabahan Abidin Aliakbar from Kinabalu Yacht Club and representing Malaysia won overall 3rd place and RMB4,000 in the Windsurfing Short Board under the Slalom category at the recent Wuhai International Windsurfing Competition 2019 held at Lake Wuhai in Inner Mongolia, China.

Sabah Sailing Association said in a statement that there were 20 others racing in the event which was won by Jonas Thyme from Denmark while second was Ho Chi Ho, a former Olympian from Hong Kong. 

Under the ‘amateur’ category, Abidin came out 1st and won an additional RMB3,000 bringing home a total of RMB7,000 (RM4,300) for his effort. 

Abidin’s trip to Wuhai was sponsored by Kinabalu Yacht Club, Oxbold and the Wuhai Local Government.

The event which began on May 10 was the second in the desert city of Wuhai in Inner Mongolia which created a lake by constructing a dam upstream of the Yellow River.

Windsurfing is an event in Sukma and Sabah Sailing Association is working hard to groom State sailors for the coming Sukma in Johor next year.
