Feel obliged to help aged: Muis
RANAU: Family members must always accompany their elderly relatives when going outside of their homes in order to ensure safety of those who are old and weak, especially when crossing the road.

Assistant Minister of Infrastructure Sabah, Datuk Hj Abdul Muis Bin Hj Picho said the recent incident involving a 74 year-old woman who was hit by an express bus while walking home alone from a health clinic should be an eye-opener.

“This is a sad event which should have been prevented if there was someone to guide the old lady to do her check up or treatment because elderly people are not that capable on their own.

“The local community must take this incident as a turning point to take safety as their priority because accident could be prevented if we take the necessary measurement to ensure that we are always in safe condition,” he said.

Abdul Muis was speaking to reporters when launching the Kempen Keselamatan Jalan Raya Sempena Sambutan Pesta Kaamatan 2019 Peringkat Negeri Sabah that was held by the Ranau Shell Fuel Station on Tuesday.

On the programme he said the campaign is an annual event which is done across the state, but this time Ranau was chosen because it is among the top six district with the highest number of road accident in 2018.

“The main objective of the Road Safety Campaign is to remind road users to be more careful and to give priority to road safety throughout the holiday season and the Kaamatan Festival.

“The campaign also means that authorities will conduct more advocacy, checks or roadblocks to ensure that users have taken all security measures and comply with road regulations,” he explained.
